Julie Wax, a Lemke alumnae and Little Rock, Ark., native started her own health and beauty blog titled “I Heart Heels” in 2008. Wax
Her year-old blog covers how to create celebrity looks, exclusive sales, product reviews and giveaways as well as Q&As with designers and stylists. Wax’s blog is part of what she described as the exclusive Total Beauty Network, www.totalbeauty.com, and Coutorture, www.coutorture.com
Wax, who was Julie Craig when she graduated in 2003, started “I Heart Heels” after she returned from a vacation in Los Angeles in May 2008.
“I had been inspired by all of the fashion and beauty around me. Also, I had been reading other people's blogs and thought it might be a nice hobby for me,” Wax said.
“I Heart Heels” is updated daily by Julie with stories about celebrity trends, celebrity interviews, special discounts, giveaways and more. Wax writes all the blogs except one “guest blog” about men’s cologne, which is written by her husband.
Wax’s blog has presented her with many opportunities.
"I certainly never imagined blogging about something I love could be this much fun and present so many opportunities,” she said.IHeartHeels
Wax has interviewed many celebrities for her blog, including Kim Kardashian, Cheryl Burke of "Dancing With The Stars,", Lauren Conrad and celeb stylist Nicole Chavez. Her blog will soon include interviews with Tori Spelling and gold medal gymnast Nastia Liukin.
In February, Wax traveled to New York for a week to attend shows and cover NY Fashion week. She got to sit in on about 20 shows throughout New York and, because of contacts made through her blog, she even got to go backstage to see hair and make-up done on some of the shows.
“I think my favorite show was Milly because she does such a great job with her designs and she makes the runway interesting with all of the pops of color,” Wax said.
Wax also had some celebrity sightings while in New York, including Justin Timberlake at the Adam Lippes show.
Recently, Wax was chosen as a “Dictator” for the new Citysearch shoe look book titled, LuckyToes (www.luckytoes.com), where she will comment on the cutest shoes seen on the street from Arkansas to Los Angeles. Wax's full-time job is as a copywriter in marketing for Windstream Corporation, but Wax has had a lifelong passion for fashion.
"I loved fashion from the moment I put on my first pair of peeptoes,” she said. “It just felt so good to be able to pick out my own clothes; it has always been sort of a creative outlet for me and a way to express myself.
“I was cutting out fashion ads from magazines in junior high and posting them on my wall. I guess you can say it's my mom's fault for always taking me shopping.”
